Flash Representation of Symbols

This is an interactive assignment that displays some of the symbols I created in a previous assignment. The object of the assignment was to demonstrate a knowledge of flash while displaying the methodology of the creation of our final symbol. My concept was to mimic the space theme of my symbols. The symbols fly in at different directions like objects floating in space. Once you click the space green button, the following symbols are the iterations of the previous symbol, which come out in an asteroid like pattern, ending in the final symbol.

Cognative Map

For this project, we were to design a map for what we were thinking. I chose to do a 3-Dimensional box that represented my mind. You would view through the slot seeing everything inside my mind. The items in the front where the ones I thought about most, the ones farther back were things I was not as focused on.

Perceptual Map

This is the second map in my project, the perceptual map. In this map, I was to emphasize the difference senses I perceived on my journey. I used a video to showcase what I saw, heard, felt, and smelled on my journey. The video follows my exact path of travel from my room to my first class. The sound changes to reflect the texture of the surface I am walking on. There are also different sounds for what I hear on my journey. Smell is represented through symbols and the cloud of smell that I walk through. I hoped to present my journey in a way that my audience could perceive the same senses I do by experiencing my same journey.

Artifact Map

This is the first map of a three part project.
In this project, we were to create an artifact map of our journey from home to school. Since I live on campus, I decided to trace my path from my room on campus to my first class. This map was to include more geographical and physical aspects of my journey. The idea was that someone unfamiliar with the area could read my map and be able to successfully complete the path of travel. Since my journey is very short, I decided to focus on the main guiding feature from my room to my class: the sidewalks. I created the sidewalks in the same form and pattern as the one's in my journey. With the sidewalks and the buildings as a reference, my map is very easy to read.

Symbol Creation - Step 1

This was the beginning of a project where our goal was to create a new symbol. I started with a general topic, mine being Navigation. From there, I chose three subcatagories: Nautical, Space, and Virtual. For each sub category I vectorized one found image, one hand drawn image, and one abstracted image relating to that category. These were my results. We then used this in a matrix system to create new symbols.

Duck Project

This is a vectorized rubber ducky. The purpose of this project was to gain experience with the pen tool, and practice vectoring objects.

Web Interface - Critical Mass

WebInterface2

WebInterface

These web interface designs were created to display our critical mass images. I created mine to relate to my theme of envy.

Envy Postcards

In this project, I was instructed to create four post cards representing one of the 7 deadly sins. I chose envy. Each post card represents a girl envying something else. Also, every post card shows the envious one with her eyes wired shut. This is from an older belief that those who gave into the sin of envy would have their eyes wired shut as punishment. The first is a girl all alone in black and white envying the relationships of others above her. The second is a girl envious of all the designer things below her she does not have. The third is a fat girl on the left side of the mirror envying the awkwardly skinny girl on the other side. The final image is this girl wanting all of the fame and fortune she does not posses.

Those who are envious are in black in white, or lacking in color and density. The object that they are envious of is rich and in full color. Each set of eyes are wired shut to correlate to the older punishment for committing the sin of envy.

Combinations - Image Methodology

Combinations

These are images that I created for a project in my Image Methodology class. The project was to use a variety of scanned objects, scanned images, and images we took ourselves to create new objects or compositions.

Scavenger Hunt

For this project, we were to take pictures around Austin. Then we had to connect one photo to the next through basic design principles such as line, color, space, shape, etc. The 6 images were printed in an accordion styled book.

Type Speciman Book

TypeBookPages

In this project, we were to select a font for a typographic study. We were then to create a type specimen book highlighting the fonts features.

Font Creation - Hangman

In this charrette, we were to make six letters of a font (ABCPQR) by using a grid and a binary system (either a black square, or a white square). This is the actual font I turned in for the class. I called this one Hangman because it mimics the post used to play the paper version of the word game hangman.

Font Creation- Roman

This is a charrette for my typography class. We were to make six letters of a font (ABCPQR) by using a grid and a binary system. We were only allowed to color in full blocks. This was a second font I had designed for the project and not the original one I submitted for the class. I was inspired by roman influences and tried to mimic that in this font.

Charrette - Distruption

In this charrette for my typography class, we were to choose a word from a list and display its meaning through imagery and typography. I chose "disruption" and decided to show how the word itself was disrupted by falling in a spiral pattern. This was not the final piece I decided to turn in, however I now believe it was better than my original.

This was my final piece for this charrette. I put a bump in the word as if someone had disrupted the continuity of the word by pushing up the middle of the word.
